Writer, Director, Filmmaker

Dylan Ferenc Nyerges is an Australian screenwriter, film director and alumni of the prestigious Master of Arts: Screen (Directing) program at The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

Born and raised in Bangkok to Australian expats, Dylan moved to Australia to pursue filmmaking. Completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film, TV and New Media Production) at The Queensland University of Technology, his undergraduate film Arthur, Blessed (2019) was nominated for Best Direction in a Student Film at the 2020 Australian Directors’ Guild Awards.

Dylan’s latest film, Bőr (Skin) is his first short film as both Writer and Director - a period Australian gothic horror, performed in Hungarian. Premiering the film at the 2024 Melbourne International Film Festival, Dylan was selected for the festival’s Director’s Lab (‘Accelerator Lab’) in addition to receiving the Award for Emerging Australian Filmmaker.

Inspired by his paternal grandparents’ migration to Australia, as a result of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, Bőr is a deeply personal endeavour and key stepping-stone in Dylan’s development as a filmmaker.

He continues to grapple with his third-culture identity through explorations of liminality and otherness. His interests extend beyond cinema to include theatre, literature, philosophy, and theory - all in an effort to better utilise cinema’s formal considerations.

He is currently interested in Hybrid works, Post-Colonialism, Process Philosophy, and is also currently developing projects set in Australia and Thailand.
